This morning, Saturday (September 20, 2025), Hajja Taiba Ahmed Hassan Al-Ali, the grandmother of political prisoner Sayyed Dhaher Habib Dhafer Al-Mousawi, who has been detained since April 2018 and sentenced to life imprisonment, passed away after suffering from illness, preventing her from meeting her grandson.
Over the past period, the prisoner and his family had submitted repeated requests to the Jaw Prison administration to allow him to visit his grandmother in the hospital as a humanitarian right. However, the delay in obtaining approval prevented him from visiting her before her death, thus depriving him of the anticipated meeting.
Denying the prisoner a humanitarian visit to his ailing grandmother, despite persistent requests from him and his family, represents a flagrant violation of prisoners' right to maintain family ties, guaranteed by national laws and international conventions, and reveals a policy of extended punishment that goes beyond the limits of judicial rulings.
