Al-Amal Center for Human Rights and Justice expresses its deep concern regarding the arrest of citizen Haj Mr. Abdullah Alawi, carried out by the Bahraini security forces at eleven o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, 24 December 2025, following a sudden raid on his home in the Mahazza area of Sitra.
According to information documented by the Center from the family, the raid was conducted by a number of security personnel in civilian clothing, without presenting any publicly disclosed judicial warrants. Mr. Abdullah Alawi was arrested while he was visiting his family.
It is noted that Mr. Abdullah Alawi had previously been sentenced in absentia to ten years’ imprisonment with immediate enforcement in cases of a political nature, while emphasizing that the case is still proceeding through the various stages of the legal appeals process.
Al-Amal Center also draws attention to the fact that Mr. Abdullah Alawi suffers from chronic illnesses, including diabetes and high blood pressure, which necessitate the provision of urgent and continuous medical care, ensuring his access to necessary treatment and medication, and monitoring his health in accordance with international standards for the treatment of prisoners.
While affirming that what occurred constitutes an arbitrary arrest, Al-Amal Center holds the Bahraini authorities fully responsible for the physical and psychological safety of Mr. Abdullah Alawi, and calls for:
-
Immediate disclosure of his place of detention.
-
Guaranteeing his right to communicate with his family and lawyer without restrictions.
-
Providing necessary medical care without delay.
-
Ending the policy of politically motivated prosecutions and arrests.
-
Respecting Bahrain’s international obligations, particularly the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
Al-Amal Center will continue to monitor the case, document its developments, and inform relevant international human rights bodies accordingly
